Brain
Injuries
The
most frequent cause of traumatic brain injury involves car and motorcycle
accidents. They are two types of traumatic head injuries: open head
injuries where the damage to the head and brain involves exterior
trauma, and is clearly evident; the second type is closed head injury.
Closed head injury involves damage to the brain that is internal
only or "invisible" to most laypersons. Unfortunately
for some victims of closed head injury their condition goes undetected
and treatment is overlooked.
It
is imperative as a victim of traumatic brain injury that you receive
help to coordinate the various support systems and medical professionals
available to document and treat this unique injury. Proper treatment
and successful recovery in these cases requires a great deal of
advocacy at the health care treatment stage.
